História do Futevólei

In historical terms, This modality was born on Brazilian beaches (em 1965), being founded by former player Octávio de Morais (“Tata do Botafogo”), in the times of the Brazilian dictatorship where playing football on the beach was prohibited. This way, “Tata” and some fellow footballers, circumvented this prohibition and began using volleyball courts with nets and a delimited field, what was already allowed, enjoying a different way of playing “ball”. In Portugal, the modality emerged in the years 80 in Póvoa de Varzim, brought by an emigrant in Brazil (Julian Neto), who, upon returning to his hometown, started playing with some friends, including Washington Alves, Bruno Alves' father (currently the great ambassador of the sport in Portugal). From the mid years 90, the sport in Portugal had exponential growth, attracting more or less unknown athletes, even other renowned ones such as Bruno Alves, with Helder Post, Pepe, Coriander, João Moutinho, Nani, Neto, etc.

Potencial de Crescimento
This sport is one of the fastest growing beach sports globally, being practiced in 5 continents and with prospects of becoming an Olympic sport in the short/medium term. In addition, It is one of the most popular sports among professional football players., due to the low risk in terms of injuries, but also due to the gains in technical terms and muscle strengthening that it provides. We also add to this the fact that it is a very fun sport that provides moments of great spectacle., can be played 2×2 (most appreciated by athletes), 3×3 e 4×4.
